The new moon of Kislev was seen in Israel on Wednesday, 30th November 2016. The weather was cloudy and it is important to have observers spread over Israel to enlarge the chance of a positive seeing.

• Simcha Gershon borer - 16:57 Modiin Ilit with binoculars
• Yoel Halevi - Kiryat Ata - 17:04 (And the photo above)

Observations outside Israel

• Augustus Paul, Dominica 18:32 - It was 18:28 when in descent, the new moon finally became visible but quite faintly in a small space in between the clouds low down, extremely too dark and was raining which further help the obscure condition of the sky, making it impossible to had photo capture it with the non-astronomical digital camera that I have.
My observation ended at 18:36 with the sky totally covered with extremely dark clouds.
• Bill Houser - We saw the new moon tonight at 5:00 pm Central Standard Time in Newburgh, IN.
• Larry Acheson - The new moon was sighted from the roof of Renaissance Tower (57th floor) in Dallas,TX on November 30th at 5:37 pm by 5 adults and two small children. Photo attached.

Marcheshvan 5777 reminder

Please look for the new moon of Marcheshvan.

Marcheshvan is the proper name of the month. Not Mar-Cheshvan or Cheshvan. It resembles the ancient name of the month which means "The eighth month" and thus is the only month that his name related to the old system of calling the months by numbers

From Israel seeing will be hard on Monday (31st Oct) and easy on Tuesday (1st Nov). From US the seeing should be easy on Tuesday as well. The predicted weather in Israel is rainy which will make the seeing even harder. If possible for you to try on Monday to be in Mitzpe Ramon/Nizana area, please make the effort.
