סיכום - Summary

הירח היה קל מאד לצפייה ומישראל נראה ביום רביעי עוד לפני השקיעה. למעשה הופתעתי שהיה קל כך לראות את הירח והצטערתי שלא התחלתי לחפש אפילו מוקדם יותר. מארצות הברית נראה בקלות כבר בשלישי בערב.

Hello All

As expected, it was very easy to see the moon from Israel on Wednesday. I was able to see it 20 minutes before sunset, and I think I could even see it earlier but I didn't start that long before.

נא לצפות בירח החדש של חודש סיוון. בישראל אנחנו "מפספסים" בערך ב-4 שעות את אפשרות ראיית הירח החדש ביום שלישי, ונראה אותו (בקלות) רק ביום רביעי אור לב' בסיוון. נסו למצוא את הירח עוד לפני השקיעה ושימו לב גם לכוכב הלכת צדק הסמוך. מארצות הברית ובפרט מהחוף המערבי הראייה גם בשלישי תהיה יחסית קלה.

Please look for the new moon of Sivan on Wednesday 28-May-2025. Try looking before sunset and notice that the moon is close to Jupiter. From the US and especially from the west coast it will be possible to see the moon on Tuesday 27-May-2025.

סיכום התצפית - New moon report

הירח החדש נראה בהצלחה. הירח היה קל לראייה ממה שהערכתי למרות גילו הצעיר, 21 שעות בסך הכל. הסיבות שעזרו לנו בראיית הירח הן זווית המילקה שהיא כמעט ישרה לאופק ונטייתו הצפונית של הירח (קשת ראייה ארוכה יותר), בתוספת העבודה שהירח קרוב לארץ (פריגאה) ולכן נע מהר יותר, כלומר מספיק להתרחק יותר מנקודות הקיבוץ עם השמש (אורך ראשון גדול יותר). 

למרות זאת, יש יחסית מעט תצפיות כאשר גם צופים מנוסים לא הצליחו לראות את הירח עקב עננות מרובה. שהפריעה מאד (כפי שאפשר לראות בתמונות) וקיצרה את הזמן בו ניתן היה לראות את הירח. הדבר מדגיש שוב את החשיבות במספר רב של צופים בפיזור על פני הארץ.

עוד יש לשים לב שהירח היה כמעט מעל השמש ומעט נוטה לצפון, כך שיוצא שחרמש הירח נראה כמעט ישר, ועל כך העיר מכובדי ר' יהודה עציון : "בחודשים שמופע החודש "שוכב", מתקיים הפסוק - המשל - הכתוב בשיר השירים: "שׇׁרְרֵךְ אַגַּן הַסַּהַר, אַל יֶחְסַר הַמָּזֶג". אגן הוא כלי, וצורת הסהר ה"שוכבת" מחזיקה את תוכנו של הכלי, שלא יישפך, שלא יחסר המזג. מה שאין כן במופע ה"עומד" של הסהר, אז לא מתקיים המשל. ואידך - פירושא, אולי גם חידושא - כל צופייך נשאו קול, יחדיו ירננו".

נציין שזמן רב לא הייתה לנו ראיית ירח ראשון לאחר 29 יום מהראייה הקודמת ובנוסף, בליל א של החודש העברי המחושב.

The new moon was successfully seen from Israel. The moon was easier to see than I had estimated, despite its young age of only 21 hours. The reasons that helped us see the moon are the ecliptic angle, which is almost perpendicular to the horizon, and the moon's northern declination, in addition to the fact that the moon is close to Earth (perigee) and therefore moves faster, meaning it manages to move further away from the conjunction point with the sun.

Despite this, there were relatively few sightings, with even experienced observers failing to see the moon due to extensive cloud cover, which greatly interfered (as can be seen in the photos) and shortened the time the moon could be seen. This again emphasizes the importance of a large number of observers spread across the country.

נא לצפות בירח החדש של חודש אייר ביום שני הקרוב (אור לא' אייר). הראייה לא קלה ומומלץ לתכנן מראש מקום עם אופק נקי ככל האפשר שיאפשר ראייה של הירח גם כשהוא נמוך. גם החודש הירח מעט צפונית לשמש  ובאופן מעשי מעליה. לכן כדאי לזכור את מקום שקיעת השמש כסיוע לאיתור מיקום הירח ולחפש מעליו ומצפונו ככל שהזמן עובר.

כמו כן אולי ראיתם ברשתות חברתיות פרסום כלשהו על התקבצות של הירח עם נוגה ושבתאי בבוקר שישי הקרוב. תהיה התקבצות אבל לא דומה כלל לתמונות הסמיילי  ששמים. מישראל הם יראו כקו ישר ושבתאי חיוור מאד ולא משאיר כל רושם והמרחקים ביניהם גדולים. מאירופה יראו משהו דומה יותר למשולש אולם גם שם המרחקים גדולים.

Hello All. 

Please look for the new moon on Monday 28-Apr-2025 after sunset. From Israel the moon will be difficult to see so try to watch from a place with clear horizon. From europe and America ssing will be much easier as few more hours will pass.

Like previous month, the Moon is slightly north of the Sun, and practically directly above it. Therefore, it’s helpful to remember the location of the sunset to assist in locating the Moon, and to look above and to the north of that point as time passes.

Also, you may have seen some posts on social media about a conjunction of the Moon with Venus and Saturn this coming Friday morning. There will indeed be a conjunction, but it will look nothing like the fake “smiley face” images being circulated. From Israel, they will appear as a straight line, with Saturn being very faint and unimpressive, and the distances between them will be large. From Europe, it will resemble more of a triangle, though even there the distances will be quite large.

סיכום התצפיות - Observations' summary

כצפוי, הירח החדש היה קל מאד לצפייה והתקבלו תוצאות רבות. המשמעות של "ירח קל לצפייה" היא שהירח שוהה מספיק זמן בשמיים כך שקל לראות אותו גם כאשר מחשיך ולכן, גם בירחים קלים יש חשיבות לנסות ולצפות מוקדם ככל האפשר. שקיעת החמה הייתה בערך בשעה 19:00 ויש לנו תצפיות דקות מעטות לאחריה, ובמשקפת גם לפניה.

שימו לב לצורה של הירח, כמעט ישר עם נטייה קלה שמאלה . בחודשים האלו הירח, בהם המילקה בזווית כמעט ישרה לאופק בזמן שקיעת הירח, ואם הירח בעל נטייה צפונית מהמילקה, הוא ייראה צפונית למקום שקיעת השמש כך שחרמשו פונה דרומה (שמאלה לצופה מישראל)

As predicted, the new moon was very easy to observe and many results were obtained. The meaning of 'easy to observe moon' is that the moon stays in the sky long enough that it is easy to see  when it gets dark, therefore, even with easy moons, it is important to try and observe as early as possible. Sunset was around 19:00 and we have observations a few minutes after it, and with binoculars also before it.

Pay attention to the shape of the moon, almost straight with a slight inclination to the left. In these months, when the ecliptic is at an almost perpendicular angle to the horizon at moonset, and if the moon has a northern inclination from the ecliptic, it will appear north of the sunset point, so its crescent faces south (left for an observer in Israel)

נא לצפות בירח החדש של חודש ניסן ביום ראשון לאחר השקיעה (אור לב' בניסן), כדאי לשים לב למקום השקיעה שכן הירח יהיה כמעט בדיוק מעליו. 

שימו לב לשעות לאחר המעבר לשעון קיץ.

בשבת הקרוב יהיה ליקוי חמה חלקי. בישראל לא נראה שום חלק של הליקוי ומעט ממנו ייראה במערב אירופה.

סיכום תצפיות הירח

הירח החדש היה קל מאד לראייה ונראה זמן רב לפני השקיעה. אני הצלחתי לראות את הירח במשקפת כ-20 דקות לפני השקיעה ובעין 12 דקות לפני השקיעה וכך גם צופים נוספים במקומות שונים בארץ. הירח היה כל כך גבוה בשמיים שאפילו הספקתי לצלם אותו בחדות גבוהה בצאת השבת. קיבלתי דיווחים רבים אולם עקב קלות הראייה אני מפרסם רק דיווחים עד השעה 17:45. 

יכול להיות ששמעתם משהו על "התיישרות פלנטרית - אירוע קוסמי נדיר ומיוחד".  אני חושב שכתבתי על זה כאן בעבר אבל אם לא, אז בקצרה זה די קשקוש ואתם מוזמנים לקרוא מאמר שלי בנושא שיעשה סדר מה עובדות ומה שטויות.

את נוגה רואים מצוין בשמי הערב אבל תוך שבועיים כבר לא נראה אותו. למי שיש משקפת או טלסקופ מומלץ מאד לצפות בנוגה, החרמש שלו ענקי וברור מאד, אני מצרף תמונה בה רואים את החרמש של נוגה במהלך השבועיים האחרונים. בימים הקרובים קל יחסית לראות גם את כוכב חמה אז נצלו את ההזדמנות למצוא אותו.

English summary

The new moon was very easy to see and was visible long before sunset. I managed to see the moon with binoculars about 20 minutes before sunset and with the naked eye 12 minutes before sunset, as did other observers in various places in the country. The moon was so high in the sky that I even managed to photograph it in high definition after Shabbat. I received many reports, but due to the ease of visibility, I am only publishing reports up to 17:45.

Venus is clearly visible in the evening sky, but in two weeks we will no longer see it. For those who have binoculars or a telescope, it is highly recommended to observe Venus. Its crescent is huge and very clear, I am attaching a picture showing the crescent of Venus during the last two weeks. In the coming days, Mercury will also be relatively easy to see, so take advantage of the opportunity to find itץ

נא לצפות בירח החדש של חודש אדר. את הירח נוכל לראות רק במוצאי שבת (אור לא') והוא יהיה קל מאד לראייה כך שמומלץ להתחיל לחפש לפני השקיעה. החכם עיניו בראשו ויסדר לעצמו את סדר הזמנים כך שיתפלל מנחה ויאכל סעודה שלישית מוקדם ובנחת ויתפנה למציאת הירח.

ירח  זה הוא תחילת חודש הרמאדן, ואני תוהה האם גם הפעם נשמע על תצפיות בלתי אפשריות, מיבשת אסיה ואפריקה בירח עוד ביום שישי (ליל שבת). ממערב אפריקה יש היתכנות כלשהי לצפייה בטלסקופ/צילום. היתכנות ממשית יש ממערב אמריקה. נחכה ונראה.

אנחנו נכנסים לעונת ליקויים ובחודש אדר שני ליקויים, שניהם לא ייראו מישראל. באמצע החודש ליקוי ירח מלא שייראה מעולה מיבשת אמריקה ולקראת סופו ליקוי חמה חלקי, שמשהו ממנו יראו בחלקים מאירופה ואפריקה. אני לא מפרט יותר מכך וקוראים ברחבי העולם מוזמנים לבדוק באתרים מקומיים לגבי אפשרויות הראייה והזמנים המדוייקים אצלם.

Hello All!

The new moon of Adar will only be visible on Saturday night (1-Mar-2025), and it will be very easy to see. Therefore, it is recommended to start looking before sunset. 

This new moon marks the beginning of the month of Ramadan, and I wonder whether, once again, we will hear reports of impossible sightings from Asia and Africa, claiming to have seen it as early as Friday night (the eve of Shabbat). From West Africa, there is some possibility of sighting it through a telescope or photography. We shall wait and see. From the Americas and especially the west coast it might be possible to see the moon with unaided eye on Friday.

We are entering an eclipse season, and in the month of Adar-March, there will be two eclipses—neither of which will be visible from Israel. In the middle of the month, there will be a total lunar eclipse, which will be well visible from the Americas. Toward the end of the month, there will be a partial solar eclipse, with some visibility in parts of Europe and Africa. I won’t provide further details, and readers worldwide are encouraged to check local websites for viewing opportunities and exact timings in their region.

הירח החדש של חודש שבט נראה בהצלחה. הראייה הייתה מעט קשה יותר ממה שהערכתי לפי הנתונים והייתי צריך לחכות 22 דקות לאחר שקיעת השמש עד ראיית חרמש הירח, נתונים שעולים בהתאמה עם שאר הצופים. מצורפת טבלת תצפיות מרחבי הארץ.

The new moon of the month of Shvat was successfully sighted. The observation was a bit more difficult than I had estimated based on the data, and I had to wait 22 minutes after sunset to see the crescent moon, which aligns with the reports of other observers. נא לצפות בירח החדש של חודש שבט. הירח יראה ביום חמישי (אור לב' שבט) לאחר השקיעה. מיד לאחר השקיעה מיצאו את נוגה (הוא גבוה למדי בשמיים) והירח יהיה על הקו בין נוגה לבין מקום שקיעת השמש.

בנוסף, אולי שמעתם משהו בחדשות על "התיישרות פלנטרית", מדובר כרגיל בסוג של קשקשת ומי שרוצה פירוט נוסף מוזמן לקרוא מאמר קצר שלי בנושא.

עוד משהו מעניין שהכנתי הוא תמונת השוואה בגודל הנראה של השמש, כאשר הארץ בנקודות הקיצון של מסלול האליפטי סביב השמש. ההפרש לא גדול, אבל רואים אותו בבירור בתמונה.

Another interesting thing I made is a comparison image showing the apparent size of the sun when the Earth is at the extreme points of its elliptical orbit around the sun. The difference isn’t huge, but it’s clearly visible in the image.

Hello All. Please look for the new moon on Thursday 30-Jan-2025 after sunset. After sunset locate Venus which is easily seen. The moon will be on the line from Venus to the sunset location.
